How does it work?

A web that's open to every visitor, regardless of disability: it's a right, an obligation, and an opportunity all at once. Here's how Capiamo supports you, every step of the way.

Why web accessibility concerns everyone

In Switzerland as in Europe, roughly one person in five encounters a barrier when browsing the web today: a dyslexic reader faced with illegible typography, a visually impaired visitor struggling with insufficient contrast, a person with epilepsy confronted by aggressive animations, or simply a tired user who can't manage to click a tiny button.

The web has become an essential space for learning, voting, working, receiving healthcare, or simply staying in touch. An inaccessible site excludes people from these activities; an accessible site includes them. This is a matter of society before it is a matter of technology.

It is now also a legal requirement. The Federal Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against People with Disabilities (LHand) governs accessibility in Switzerland. On the European side, the Accessibility Act, which came into force in June 2025, imposes new obligations on private operators, and Directive (EU) 2016/2102 applies to public sector bodies.

Web accessibility is therefore both an act of civility and a legal obligation. Capiamo was designed to make this approach accessible to every organisation, whatever its size.

Capiamo is built around a widget that plays two complementary roles: it adapts your site to each visitor's needs, and it analyses your code to identify the points that need fixing.

For your visitors: six accessibility profiles

Each visitor can activate the profile that matches their needs in a single click. Here are the six profiles currently offered.

Dyslexia

A font suited to reading, generous line spacing, reinforced letter spacing, and a reading guide that follows the current line. These visual adjustments reduce the cognitive load of decoding: the dyslexic reader can focus on the content rather than on the shape of the words. Navigation remains smooth, whatever the volume of text.

Low vision

Text enlargement, enhanced contrast, a larger cursor, and built-in text-to-speech that reads the page aloud. The site remains fully legible and navigable for a visually impaired visitor, without them having to install a screen magnifier or external software. The experience stays consistent with the rest of the site.

Colour blindness

Colour filters adapted to the main forms of colour blindness, with reinforcement of non-colour cues (shapes, labels, contrast). Information encoded through colour — alerts, success indicators, chart segments — remains understandable for visitors who cannot distinguish certain shades.

Epilepsy

Neutralisation of animations, transitions, and flashing elements as soon as the profile is activated. The site can then be consulted safely by people with photosensitivity, limiting the risk of intense visual stimulation. The content remains accessible; only potentially dangerous visual stimuli are removed.

ADHD

A focus mask that isolates the reading area, reduction of peripheral visual distractions, and a focus mode for long-form reading. These adjustments help maintain attention on what matters. Navigation becomes manageable again for visitors whose concentration is disrupted by a busy visual environment.

Motor impairment

Enlarged click targets, enhanced keyboard navigation, and removal of time constraints imposed by action deadlines. The site becomes fully usable without a mouse, without precise gestures, and without time pressure — whether for a person with a motor disability or for someone using an alternative pointing device.

For your compliance: WCAG scanning

The widget doesn't just adapt the display for your visitors: it continuously analyses your pages' code to detect points that do not comply with the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), the international benchmark for web accessibility.

The results appear in your Capiamo dashboard: list of detected violations, pages concerned, changes over time, notifications in case of regression. You know where your site is progressing and where it is regressing.

One distinction must be made, and we want to highlight it: the widget fixes on the fly what can be fixed on the display side — user profiles, contextual adaptations. But the underlying causes live in your code: HTML structure, default contrast, form labels, tab order. Capiamo tells you where to intervene, with what priority, and why.

We don't claim that a widget alone makes a site compliant. We work with your teams, or with your agency.

The journey is deliberately short. Getting started takes just four steps.

1. Sign up

Signing up is self-service at https://app.capiamo.ch/en/signup, with no prior sales process required. Capiamo offers a permanent free plan for low-traffic sites: accessibility is not reserved for large organisations. Paid plans come with a 14-day trial, no credit card required.

2. Install the widget

You copy a short code snippet into your site's header, or add it via your tag manager. Capiamo is compatible with all CMS platforms and static sites on the market. Installation takes a few minutes and requires no server-side dependencies.

3. Monitoring

As soon as the widget is installed, scanning starts automatically. Your dashboard lists the detected WCAG violations, the pages concerned, and their estimated impact.

4. Fixes

Two action plans run in parallel. On the visitor side, the widget is already adapting the display for anyone who activates a profile — the benefit is immediate, without waiting for a single line of code to be corrected. On the code side, a prioritised list of violations in the dashboard guides you step by step. Your teams or your agency work through the points one by one: Capiamo documents each issue to make intervention easier.

Every fix made to your site extends the web to a slightly broader audience. A dyslexic student following her online course, a visually impaired resident filling in an administrative form, a person who can only navigate with a keyboard: these people exist, and they deserve to have the web fully returned to them. Capiamo exists so that this approach is within reach of every organisation, including the smallest — hence our permanent free plan.

Capiamo is designed and developed in Switzerland by Swiss Data Guard Sàrl, certified swiss made software and swiss hosting — a mark of quality, proximity, and roots in the national digital ecosystem.

The data you entrust to us is encrypted, as are the exchanges between your site and our servers. And your data remains under Swiss jurisdiction. For a public administration, a non-profit, or a company attentive to digital sovereignty, this twofold Swiss commitment offers a solid guarantee.

A few clarifications for your technical teams and for agencies integrating Capiamo on behalf of their clients.

Scanning methodology

The automated scan detects what can be detected through static and dynamic analysis: contrast, form element labels, heading structure, ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, reading order. However, it does not replace human judgement on the relevance of an alt text, the clarity of a label, or the coherence of a user journey. Capiamo clearly distinguishes between the two.

Integration into your site

The widget loads asynchronously, without blocking the rendering of your pages. If your site enforces a strict Content Security Policy, the domain app.capiamo.ch must be added to the script-src and connect-src directives.
